Heard one deadbeat dad story you've heard them. Nik Pace of America's Next Top Model fame doesn't think so. Her story is so profound that she is taking it to America's justice system in the name of a lawsuit for child support to the tune of $70,000 per month. Just who is the lucky defendant, New York Jets WR and new father, Braylon Edwards.
The newswire has been a buzz this year with Edwards deteriorating career as a Cleveland Brown, his notorious sucker punch to a certain Cleveland promoter and friend to another famous Cleveland resident (See Braylon Edwards Punches Lebron's Friend ), name changed to James to protect the innocent and last but not least, a whirlwind trade to the New York Jets. Now it seems Edwards has "dropped the ball" again by knocking up Pace who although he has known for a few years, never dated seriously.
While Edwards does claim his 5 month old son in Georgia where little Braylon Edwards Jr. was born, that doesn't seem to sit well with Nik Pace who had the case dropped in Georgia to be litigated in New York where she currently lives.
"Braylon had tried to get the case litigated in Georgia because they are traditionally less generous with child support payments. It's a cold, calculated act to pay less money. But we had the case dismissed in Georgia and moved [it] to New York because this is where Nik lives. We served Braylon in the past week. He can run, but he can't hide." Pace's lawyer, Raoul Felder told the New York Post.
Sources close to Braylon paint a different picture citing Nic's recent move to New York in November, after Braylon was traded to the Jets and that he has been paying child support since the child's birth which Pace reportedly kept from him the time and place, hindering his ability to be there. Edwards' lawyer, Randy Kessler said, "Braylon is a proud father who has loved and supported his child since before he was born. He filed in June to declare himself the legal father and she objected."
Granted a newborn child can be a financial burden these days with the rising costs of diapers, formula and other mounting baby expenses but $70,000 a month? Sounds like the 25 year-old, America's Next Top Model finalist's lifestyle is what's in need of litigation. While a max of $10,000 per month might be reasonable, no amount of Gucci diaper bags, Burberry strollers, baby Jordans and Ralph Lauren onesies justifies such a hefty child support payment.
The only one that seems to be cold and calculating is Pace.
